Kit List

These trips have been operated by AAA Hiking since 2013, usually with two events each year and given our experiences, we have refined this kit list

We recommend that you bring the following to ensure an enjoyable, safe, and comfortable time on one of our AAA Hiking Adventures.

The Recommended Extras are the items that will ensure you are more comfortable and provide you with a better and more comfortable experience.

The following list represents AAA's best guide for the kit and equipment to maximise your activity.

Essentials

  • Sleeping bag

    • ideally 3 season

  • Roll mat or inflatable mattress

    • If it requires a pump, ensure you have access to one

  • Appropriate footwear for canoeing

    • Trainers or old Converse-type shoes, etc.. 

    • DO NOT WEAR flip flops or loose-fitting shoes as they come off and float away when you most need protection on your feet.

  • Torch or headlight

  • Waterproof jacket. 

    • This is England, and it's known to rain sometimes.

  • Warm clothing for the canoe

    • You will be exposed to the weather, both on the water and at the campsite.

  • Cash to pay for dinner and drinks on Saturday evening

  • Dry Bag to hold your valuables. 

    • These will be put in a watertight drum, so a zip lock bag should be fine.

  • Water container 

    • Sufficient to hold sufficient for personal consumption (min 2 litres)

  • Personal towels & toiletries

    • Showers exist; they are basic.

  • Warm jackets for sitting outside at night.

  • Sunscreen

    • ideally waterproof

  • Mobile phone.

  • Any medication that you require.

    • Inhalers or Anti-histamines/Anti-Allergy Medication

  • Sun hat (Essential if it's as warm as last year)

Recommended Extras

These are the items that make the difference

  • A rug or a Folding chair for sitting on the grass around the campfire

  • Suitable attire for a swim in the river if you so choose

  • Food – High-energy, low-weight snacks are ideal.

  • Outfit for dinner on Saturday

  • Karibina - Useful for securing items such as bottles of water to your canoe

  • Camera (Ideally waterproof or in a waterproof container

  • Spare batteries for the torch.

  • Glasses wearer, A cord to secure your glasses to your head or a floaty cord, should they fall in the water. Your host might have some to sell as a last measure.

Luxury Items (nice to have) 

  • Water pistol
